Phytohemagglutinin (PHA) is expressed in Pichia pastoris using native signal peptides, or the Saccharomyces alpha-factor preprosequence, to direct proteins into the secretory pathway. Phytohemagglutinin induces apoptosisin human HEp-2 carcinoma cells via increasing proapoptotic protein Baxand activating caspases-3.
