CloneticsTM Primary Smooth Muscle Cells have been isolated from normal, diabetic, asthma, COPD and cystic fibrosis donors. These are available for variety of research areas including pulmonary research, cardiac research and vascular research.
Smooth muscle cells appear as thin layer of sheets and are found in the walls of blood vessels (vascular smooth muscle), lymphatic vessels, bladder and uterus (uterine smooth muscle) and other areas of the body. The primary function of smooth muscles is to create contractions in the presence of an external stimulus. This stimuli can differ in different areas of the body to induce individual effects. Smooth muscle contractions are created by a sliding motion between actin filaments and myosin. The energy to generate this motion is provided by ATP hydrolysis.
Vascular smooth muscle contracts or relaxes to regulate volume of blood vessels and blood pressure. Excessive vasoconstriction leads to hypertension, while excessive vasodilation leads to hypotension
Clonetics™ SmGM-2TM Growth Medium is specially designed to support the growth of normal and diseased smooth muscle cells. Media systems have been specifically developed and optimized for various cell systems. Media are supplied in several formats:
Basal Medium - contains no growth factors, cytokines, or supplements
SingleQuots™ Kit - growth factors, cytokines, and supplements
BulletKit™ - basal medium and SingleQuots™ Kit packaged together
