CloneticsTM primary large-vessel and microvascular endothelial cells have been isolated from normal and diabetic type 1 and 2 donors. These are available for variety of research areas including pulmonary research, cardiac research and dermal research.

The endothelium is as an inert membrane that lines the circulatory system with its primary  function being the maintenance of vessel wall permeability and regulating blood flow.  Endothelial cells also generate an antithrombotic surface that facilitates transit of plasma and cellular constituents throughout the vasculature. Endothelial cells line vessels in every organ system and regulate the flow of nutrients, biological molecules, and the blood cells.

Many of the endothelial processes are commonly studied in vitro using human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). Endothelial cell consists of "cobblestone" morphology, stain positive for Factors VIII and take up acetylated low-density lipoprotein. HUVECs stain positively with CD-31. Cells pretreated with IL-1 or TNF-alpha also selectively express E-selectin and VCAM.
