The Clonetics™ Bovine Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cell System (bMVEC-B) is a model of the Blood Brain Barrier. The system is designed to significantly improve a researcher’s ability to study active and passive transport of drugs across the blood brain barrier, to study brain endothelial cell tight junctions, and to study the basic biology of brain microvascular endothelial cells.
The bMVEC System consists of cryopreserved primary bovine brain microvascular endothelial cells from a pool of multiple donor brains (AC-2509), and basal medium for growth (CC-3156) into confluent monolayers. The endothelial cells express cellular tight junctions (positive for the proteins ZO-1 and Claudin-1), and transport characteristics (P-Glycoprotein function) found in the blood brain barrier. Thus the system can be used in early stage ADME-Tox screening assays to demonstrate whether test compounds are likely to cross the blood brain barrier.
